2 Day Homestead Intensive February 1 and 2
Join us January February 1 and 2nd, 2025 for a full 2 day (9-4) homesteading intensive workshop on the farm. All the details are coming together, but this will be fun and informative. Please note, to save $50 on a couple discount use code “Homesteadfortwo” for the second ticket.
The 2 days will include, but not limited to:
* 2-3 hour beekeeping course - this is a classroom style workshop-everything else is more hands on with Master Beekeeper, Rebecca.
*Goat milking, husbandry, emergency care basics, hoof trimming, and more.
*Garden planning for year round production
*Pig husbandry basics
*Poultry processing and how to apply to get your meat handlers permit
*Growing Microgreens for health and profit
*Sourdough essentials
*Access to our first on-demand cheese making program.
*Make your own bacon!
*Financial planning, grant ideas, sales ideas to help fund it all!
Beekeeping starts with the basics; we will go over some basics of beekeeping and the down to earth ways to get started. It will be too cold to go directly into the bees, but that is ok. This is an introductory course to get you started, and we will share how to source bees locally from a variety of sources.
Be prepared to be hands on for the rest. For this reason, this is an adult class only. We want each person to have hands on time with all the animals. Please dress accordingly (to be warm and expect to get dirty)
Suggested attire: Layers for warmth, not your fanciest clothes, water tight boots, gloves, hats, bring a change of clothes if desired.
We will also go into goat care basics. Learn how to save yourself money on caring for your goats yourself with hoof trimming, parasite management, basic assessment and more. Extra incentive: baby goats are due around then….love baby snuggles!
Doing your own fecal analysis is a great way to save some vet costs and prevent over medicating your animals, wasting money on treatments, and most of all, help diminish the treatment resistant parasites.
Pig care….great protein source for a homestead family. The usage ratio of a pig is much higher than cattle, lamb, goat, and more. Raising them doesn’t have to be hard if you start off on the right foot.
Microgreens…garden indoors for your health! We will get your started with your own mini microgreen growing project.
Poultry processing. Get hands on experience with doing a farm to table meal. The better weather of the 2 days will be the hands-on processing, packaging, and further breakdown into sausage and boneless cuts. Lunch this day will be a smoked chicken lunch. Please let us know any allergy concerns, and we will try to accommodate. This will be the first project for that day. If you choose to skip this part, I can give you an estimate of the time of the next project on the agenda, so you will have a better idea of when to arrive closer to the class date. We do encourage you to try this part…It is not as bad as you may think.
We will also go over ways to earn money, apply for grants, and our suggested ways to get started here in the low country. Class size is very limited. Materials and a custom handbook will be provided for each participant, or one per couple. Light snacks will be provided. Sandwiches and smoked chicken are the lunch menus. Sodas and waters will be available as well. We will also provide a workbook for each participant/ couple with contacts, helpful links, savings programs for website building, payment processing options and more. Class size if very limited to 12 people. This is to make sure we have plenty of time to work with each and every person. Thank you for reading, please reach out with any questions.
Class is $175 per person, $300 per couple using code above for second ticket.
Weather may play a bit into this, severe weather will require a make up day. Class communication will be via email primarily. Please add us to your inbox so we do not go to trash.
